Uber Has Left Lagos: How to Plan Your Trips Now
Uber ended its service in Nigeria on September 2, 2026, twelve years after it launched in Lagos in 2014. The company said the decision followed a review of its business, and its help center stayed open until September 23 so riders and drivers could settle their accounts. Other ride-hailing apps still operate in the city, but many Lagos residents now have one less option on their phones and need a clearer plan for getting around.

Hailing works well for a single short trip, such as a twenty-minute ride to dinner when you plan to come back late. It works less well for a day with several stops, because you request a new car at every stop, wait each time and pay whatever the price is at that hour. Sorting your week into short single trips and longer planned days shows you quickly where a booked car makes more sense.

Where a booked car fits

RideSure is a rental marketplace where you choose a specific car from an owner, book it for your dates and pay before the day arrives. That suits airport runs with luggage, a full day of meetings across the Island and the mainland, family visits over a weekend and events such as weddings and burials. You know the car, the price and the pickup point in advance, so rain or rush hour does not change what you pay.

Compare the cost over a full day

Add up what a busy day of hailing costs you, including the surge on the evening trip home. Then compare it with a daily rental, which starts at about ₦80,000 on RideSure and covers the whole day. For one or two trips, hailing is cheaper. For five or six stops with waiting time in between, or for a group that would need two hailed cars, the rental often comes out ahead and removes the waiting.

If you own a car

Uber's exit also affects people who earned from their cars. Owners can list a vehicle on RideSure through the Earn With Us page and rent it out on the days they choose, which turns a car that sits parked for most of the week into steady income. Owners set the car up once, and bookings come in from renters who have already paid.

Plan the week ahead

Take ten minutes on Sunday to look at the week. Mark the days with airport trips, long routes or guests in town, and book a car for those days before prices and availability tighten. Keep a hailing app for the short trips in between. Search available cars by date at getridesure.com.
